Grandmother's Gratitude Day

Today we announce the first Grandmother’s Gratitude Day. It has been 400 years in the making. While Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends, Grandmother’s Gratitude Day compels us to honor Mother Earth and the lineage of elders who have taught us how to steward the Earth. Amidst all the chaos of this world, the voices of the elders ring clear and true: “Recognize that you have the gift of life and be a caretaker of that gift.” These words, spoken by Cherokee elder Dhyani Ywahoo remind us all of our responsibility to be caretakers of the gift of life.

When it comes to honoring the Earth, the First Nations have led by example and given us many lessons to follow. Grandmother’s Gratitude Day calls us to deeply understand these lessons so we can take the actions necessary to foster a sustainable way of life. The First Nations call on us to share all the natural resources given to us by Mother Earth. This way of life stands in stark contrast to the prevalent ideas of Western culture and capitalism that puts profit over people. Therefore, in our smallest, as well as our largest decisions, caretaker wisdom spurs is to act in the best interest of ourselves and Mother Earth.

Here at Boston Clear, we want all the people from every nation —starting with First Nations— to know that we are committed to protecting our natural mineral element sources for all people. No matter where people are from, or what spiritual tradition they follow, all are welcome to take water and enjoy the tranquility of being by the Spring. We will try our best to provide this abundant life-sustaining water to people and animals alike, no matter where they live on Earth. We acknowledge that all people are stakeholders of Spring and that access to water and its mineral content is a right, not a privilege. We pledge to ensure access to Pocahontas Spring and its resources for all of humanity. We feel today is an important day to affirm that we will continue this tradition to never limit access to the spring. We will always abide by the traditions and history of this land which are “Grandmothered” down to us.

The elders teach us that we must all do our part to protect the grounds around natural mineral springs and unite our voices to ensure our community stands for one voice: the voice of the Mother. Pocahontas Spring, the oldest mineral spring in America is ground zero for protecting the gift of water that nature has given us. We honor the life-giving water and do not treat it with chemicals that negatively affect its purity. No chemicals are allowed to seep into the hallowed ground of our ancient ancestors. We uphold the mission to protect and share the source for the benefit of all.

Your ambassadorship is an integral part of our united cause to respect and uphold the laws over unjust human interests. Preventing man-made pollutants from contaminating the spring must be met with social justice in defense of Mother Earth.

Thank you all for celebrating Grandmother’s Gratitude Day with us!
